Caldera
A social network for GitHub and Obsidian: your repos become a city, your vault a living profile.
Caldera is a social network for GitHub and Obsidian. It turns your GitHub activity into a 'living city' — districts are projects, buildings are repos, lit windows are this week's commits — and your Obsidian vault into a daily-updating profile with a journal, streaks, and topics. The GitHub side needs no install: anyone can open their own city by GitHub username, signing in with GitHub takes about 30 seconds, and the city rebuilds every 6 hours; the Obsidian side runs entirely on your device, and nothing leaves your vault unless you choose to share it. Private notes you do send are end-to-end encrypted and land as a normal note in a friend's vault. It's free and open source, built on a signed, open protocol, so you can self-host your page or run your own hub instead of trusting Caldera's servers.

What holds up
- +Free and open source, with an open protocol — self-host your page or run your own hub.
- +Obsidian side runs on-device — nothing leaves your vault unless you explicitly share it.
- +Shared notes are end-to-end encrypted, landing as a normal note in a friend's vault.
- +GitHub side needs zero install and rebuilds automatically every 6 hours.
Mind the limits
- −GitHub profile rebuilds only every 6 hours — not a live feed of your activity.
- −Public parts of your city and profile are visible to anyone on the network by design.
