CogniFocus
Blocks distracting apps during focus sessions and calls you out with an animated Goblin
CogniFocus is a focus timer for Android that blocks selected apps during a session and reacts with an on-screen Goblin character when you open one anyway. Slipping doesn't end the session — a recovery nudge lets you get back on track, and streaks, XP and Focus Shards keep score over time. Early access users reported dropping from several Instagram breaks per session to one or fewer. It's Android only for now, with iOS on a waitlist.
What holds up
- +Shield actively blocks selected apps mid-session instead of just tracking elapsed time
- +Free to start on Android, no upfront payment
- +Recovery nudge lets you resume after slipping instead of failing the whole session
Mind the limits
- −Android only — iOS users are stuck on a waitlist
- −Effectiveness claims come from early-access user reports, not a controlled study
