Crest turns the MacBook notch into a control surface: music controls, your next meeting one click away, clipboard history, hourly weather, and — its standout feature — permission prompts and questions from Claude Code, Codex and Copilot CLI that you can read and answer right from the notch instead of switching back to a terminal. The base app is free forever; Pro adds two bundled apps (Take for screen recording, Minutes for local meeting notes) for $24.99 once or $2.99/month, with a 7-day free trial and no card needed. Minutes specifically needs macOS 26 on Apple Silicon; everything else needs macOS 14 or later, and a one-time purchase covers 2 Macs.
What holds up
- +Surfaces coding-agent prompts in the notch, so you answer without switching windows
- +One-time $24.99 covers Crest Pro plus two more apps, on 2 Macs, never expires
- +Minutes keeps meeting notes entirely on-device — nothing leaves the Mac
- +Also installable via Homebrew, not just a direct download
Mind the limits
- −Minutes needs macOS 26 on Apple Silicon — older Macs or Intel chips can't use it
- −Canceling the subscription drops you to free, losing Take and Minutes access
