Dictami
Dictates text locally on a Mac in 30 languages, landing in whatever app your cursor is in.
Dictami turns speech into punctuated text on a Mac, landing directly in whatever app your cursor is in, in about a third of a second for a short phrase and just over a second for a full paragraph. Recognition for its 30 supported languages runs entirely on-device with no internet needed and nothing uploaded; languages outside that list fall back to the slower, broader Whisper model. It needs no account — a license key is checked once — and keeps a playback recording of every dictation on your Mac, which you can turn off. It's $5.99/month, with a 7-day trial and a 14-day no-questions refund.

What holds up
- +Runs fully offline — 0 bytes of audio are ever uploaded, even with no signal at all.
- +Replies in under 0.4 seconds for a short phrase, measured on a Mac mini M1.
- +No account needed — a license key is checked once and never again.
- +Refunds within 14 days, no questions asked, and email replies come from the person who built it.
Mind the limits
- −Doesn't help for poetry, contracts or code — anywhere exact wording matters, by its own admission.
- −Only 30 languages run at full on-device speed; others fall back to the slower Whisper model.
- −Apple Silicon Mac required, macOS 14 or later — Intel Macs are excluded.
