Gora Academy
Teaches Balkan Slavic grammar and Russian with case-by-case explanations, not just words
Gora teaches Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian, Montenegrin and Russian by explaining the grammar behind every answer — which case, which ending, why — instead of just drilling vocabulary, and the site points out Duolingo offers none of Serbian, Croatian or Bosnian at all. The Russian course runs 55 units from the alphabet to B1, with every word recorded and every stressed syllable marked. It works offline, runs in the browser with no app required, and adds spaced repetition and an AI tutor for speaking practice, with grammar sourced from linguistic reference works rather than guesswork.

What holds up
- +Explains the grammar — case, ending, why — behind every answer, not just marking right or wrong
- +Covers Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian and Montenegrin — languages Duolingo doesn't offer at all
- +Russian course has 55 units with every word recorded and every stressed syllable marked
- +Runs in the browser with no app required, and works offline once loaded
Mind the limits
- −Only covers five closely related Slavic languages — no help outside that family
- −Leans on grammar explanations, not quick phrase-matching — slower start for casual travel phrases
