lidawake by zaYco
Keeps a MacBook awake with the lid shut when macOS would sleep, then always gives sleep back.
lidawake keeps a MacBook awake with the lid closed in the two cases macOS won't: with no external display, or with one but on battery — one menu bar toggle instead of the classic book-wedged-in-the-hinge trick. It watches for heat and a battery limit you set, and its helper restores normal sleep even if you quit or the app crashes, so a closed lid never means an overheating laptop nobody's watching. It's a one-time $19 purchase after a 14-day trial, needs macOS 13+ on Apple Silicon, and the code is open source.

What holds up
- +One-time $19 after a 14-day trial — no subscription to keep paying
- +Auto-restores sleep on heat, battery limit, quit or a crash — can't get stuck awake
- +Open source code — no need to just trust their word on a system-level permission
- +~2 MB and notarized by Apple — a tiny, checked binary, not a bloated background app
Mind the limits
- −Apple Silicon and macOS 13+ only — Intel Macs and older macOS are out
- −Needs a signed system-level helper installed — more setup than a plain menu toggle
