magpie runs a gateway on your own machine that translates between agent protocols — OpenAI Responses, Anthropic Messages, Gemini and more — so Claude Code can run on DeepSeek, or Codex on Kimi, from a menu bar switch. It can reuse logins you already have (Claude Pro/Max, ChatGPT Plus/Pro, Copilot) as a model provider without copying any API key, and when you add several accounts it routes each turn to whichever is best, falling back automatically with increasing backoff when one fails. Changing a model only rewrites the one config key that changed.

What holds up
- +Lets you run Claude Code on Kimi or GLM, or Codex on DeepSeek, from one menu bar switch
- +Reuses your existing Claude Pro, ChatGPT Plus or Copilot logins — no API key copying
- +Rewrites only the one config key you changed, leaving the rest of an agent's config intact
- +Rotates across accounts on rate limits or empty credit before your agent ever sees an error
Mind the limits
- −Runs as a local gateway on your machine — if it's not running, your agents can't reach any model
- −Smart routing relies on a small model guessing each turn's intent, not a rule you set directly
