manaflow-ai/cmux
Mac terminal built for running several AI coding agents at once, with alerts when one needs you
cmux is a native Swift/AppKit terminal (not Electron) for running multiple Claude Code or Codex sessions side by side. Panes light up with a notification ring when an agent needs attention, and a built-in browser pane can run alongside the terminal for testing web agents. It reads your existing Ghostty config for themes and fonts, and ships free as open-source GPL software with a CLI and socket API for scripting.
What holds up
- +Built natively in Swift/AppKit, not Electron — faster startup and lower memory than typical terminals
- +Notification rings flag exactly which pane needs you, instead of alt-tabbing through sessions
- +Open source and GPL-licensed — free to use and modify, no account required
- +SSH mode routes a remote browser pane through the connection, so localhost just works over SSH
Mind the limits
- −macOS only — Linux and Windows developers can't use it
- −Built for terminal-based agents like Claude Code and Codex — less useful otherwise
