Pines Voice
Mac dictation that types into any app, running fully offline or through your own AI API key.
Pines Voice types wherever your cursor is in any Mac app: hold the right Option key, speak, and let go. The local engine (Parakeet or whisper.cpp on Metal) needs no API key and no network — it works with the cable pulled out — while the cloud option uses your own OpenAI, Groq or OpenRouter key, stored in the macOS Keychain and sent only to the provider, with the cost of each dictation printed to four decimal places. It costs $5 a month or $29 a year with a 3-day free trial, and requires an Apple silicon Mac on macOS 12 or newer.

What holds up
- +Local engine needs no API key and no network — dictation keeps working with the Mac offline
- +Your own cloud API key goes straight to the provider from the Keychain — Pines never sees the traffic or bill
- +Activity log (transcripts, word count, spend) stays on your Mac only, never sent to their servers
Mind the limits
- −Apple silicon only on macOS 12+ — Intel Macs can't run it
- −$5/month or $29/year subscription after a 3-day trial — no lifetime license shown
