Putback
Restores your Mac's window layout the instant an external display reconnects.
Putback watches your desk and remembers which window belongs on which display by its identity, so plugging back in after undocking restores everything in under a second instead of leaving every window piled on one screen. Named Scenes let you draw a layout for apps you haven't even opened yet, assign a hotkey, and have Putback launch and position them on apply. It's $19 once with a 7-day trial, and the maker's pitch is explicit that snapping tools that just move windows on drag aren't solving this problem.

What holds up
- +One-time $19, no subscription, updates included
- +Restores a full multi-display layout in under a second when displays reconnect
- +Scenes can open apps that aren't running yet and seat them into position automatically
- +Works on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs
Mind the limits
- −Only useful if you already fight macOS's display-reconnect window shuffle — a non-issue for single-monitor setups
- −Mac only, so Windows or Linux multi-monitor users get no equivalent
