Rowel
Offline password and secrets manager that syncs through your own Google Drive, encrypted first.
Rowel keeps one encrypted vault file on your Mac — passwords, cards, passports, SSH keys, API tokens and files — and works identically with no network at all, since everything is AES-256-GCM encrypted with an Argon2id-stretched master password that never leaves your keyboard. To use it on your phone, you connect your own Google Drive; Rowel encrypts the vault before it uploads, so Drive only ever stores an opaque binary blob, never your actual secrets. It's free for macOS 13+, iOS and Safari/Chrome, with no account and no vendor server to breach.
What holds up
- +Works fully offline — the vault opens the same with no network at all, even at 35,000 feet.
- +Syncs through your own Google Drive, encrypted before upload — Drive only ever sees an opaque binary file.
- +No account and no vendor server — delete the app and there's nothing of yours left anywhere else.
- +Free across macOS, iOS and Safari/Chrome, with a 22 MB download for the Mac app.
Mind the limits
- −Sync depends on your own Google Drive account — no cloud option of Rowel's own if you'd rather skip Drive.
- −Mac/Apple-first (macOS 13+, iOS, Safari/Chrome) — no native Windows or Android app shown.
