StepSafe Kids
Cellular GPS tracker for kids with safe-zone alerts and a permanently disabled mic.
StepSafe Kids is a credit-card-sized cellular GPS tracker (45x45mm, 33g) that reports a child's location across the US and Canada as often as every 20 seconds and alerts parents the moment they enter or leave a mapped safe zone — including water hazards like a backyard pool or a pond near school, which parents map during setup. The mic is permanently disabled, so schools can't object to it as a recording device. It's a working, tested hardware sample already locked to manufacturer JIMI IoT (1.7M trackers shipped a year), funded on Kickstarter with Founder's Prices until the campaign closes September 3, 2026.

What holds up
- +Mic is permanently disabled at the hardware level, so schools can't object to it.
- +Manufacturer is already locked in and ships 1.7M tracking devices a year.
- +Water hazard alerts map every pool and pond, then notify on entry or exit.
Mind the limits
- −IP65 covers dust, rain and splashes only — not rated for submersion.
- −Still a Kickstarter campaign — pledging means waiting for production and certification.
