Tera Convert
Converts and edits files on Mac entirely offline — images, video, audio, PDF, docs
Converts images, video, audio and documents on a Mac, edits text inside PDFs, strips image backgrounds, and batch-converts whole folders — all processed locally so nothing uploads. The desktop app needs Apple silicon, with a browser version and a free first conversion for everyone else. It names its rivals directly, comparing itself against CloudConvert, Convertio, Zamzar and four others.
What holds up
- +Runs fully offline on-device — no upload or cloud processing of your files
- +Edits text inside PDFs directly, written into the file instead of pasted over it
- +Batch-converts whole folders in the desktop app with one edit applied to all
Mind the limits
- −Desktop app needs Apple silicon — Intel Mac owners are limited to the browser version
- −Pricing beyond the free first conversion isn't stated on the page
