Vokalu – Windows/Mac dictation, free on-device or 2¢/min in the cloud
Turns a held-down shortcut and your voice into typed text in any Windows or Mac app.
Hold a shortcut, speak, release — Vokalu inserts cleaned-up text wherever your cursor is, stripping filler words and applying spoken corrections ('three… actually, four' becomes 'four') before it lands. It also writes meeting notes from a live call or an uploaded recording, without a bot joining the call. Pricing is pay-per-minute with no required subscription (1.5¢/min for voice typing, 2¢/min with formatting or for meeting notes), and a private mode keeps audio entirely on your device — though by default Vokalu says its speech provider may retain audio to improve its models.
What holds up
- +Pay-per-minute pricing with no required subscription — 1.5¢ a minute for voice typing, nothing if unused.
- +Private mode keeps your voice entirely on-device — the only mode with that guarantee, by their own account.
- +Takes meeting notes from a live call or a recording without a bot joining — invisible to other attendees.
- +Applies spoken corrections and strips filler words automatically — no manual cleanup pass needed.
Mind the limits
- −Outside private mode, Vokalu says its speech provider may retain audio to improve its models.
- −Windows and Mac only — no mobile app, so dictation stops the moment you're off the desktop.
